I haven't a clue what this is, I have searched and searched but haven't found anything similar, perhaps I'm missing something glaringly obvious. The soldiers/guards and cannon balls all screw off at the base. 3 rifles point upwards to hold a platform for something? My thoughts perhaps an ashtray might have sat there? Brass base with epns or silver plate, approx 7 inches tall! As mentioned, ANY help would be greatly appreciated! Looking to know firstly what it is, age, where it's from etc! Thanks in advance!
Really nice. I was thinking ashtray too but since it's 7" I doubt it. It's too short for that I would think.
trench art candle holder/stand ???
Comport or table centerpiece would have ha a glass bowl on top .
I'm with Marty !!!
From a regimental table ???
Thank you all for your suggestions! :)
Ozmarty,do you know that's what it is for sure?do you know what it would be used for? Just for decorative purposes? Do you know to what army the soldiers belong to? Thank you
Check out the uniforms of the Royal Fusiliers.
Yes , it is a table center piece . for decoration and also to hold fruit or sweetmeats (confections ) . You would need a military person to tell you which army the soldiers are from but I think either Austrian / German or French .
It could have graced the table of a military person or officers mess.
seeing there is no inscription it is not a presentation piece
Agree with marty. Probably late Victorian-- end of the 19th century.
