I picked this up today. I think it may be an old hat box???? The snaps are marked WKBEEHK408. I am not sure what the embossed material is. The top is dirty and possibly faded. Measures about 10" tall and about 9" in diameter. I saw one reference stating WK Bee Bentwood Box?. Any thoughts? Thanks so much!
It's quite lovely!! But, I don't believe it's a hat box. Based on the size, the handle style and the buckle on the front, this would be a newer item, probably from the 1980's or 90's. I do love it, especially the beautiful tooling.
Thanks Scott! I wasn't sure what to think of it. I was concerned it was 'made to look old'. And yes, the size isn't right at all! So this would have been made as a decorative box??
Thanks for all the loves!!! :-)
Scott, do you have an idea of who would have made this box? A department store maybe? It is so detailed. The tiny nails to attach the wood accents are bent over on the inside. Yet there are little phillip head screws on the back. And it looks like a balsa wood maybe???? (I'm totally guessing on that!!!) I'm just so curious about it!
Thanks again - sorry to be a pest!
