Hello all! I'm wondering if anyone knows if this enamel ring could be repaired. To my knowledge, it's Victorian marked 14k. The opals are lovely and the pearls seem in nice condition as well. I'm not an expert, just hoping to get an opinion on whether it would be worth fixing or not. Many thanks, Anna

Antique enamel is extremely hard to restore, it wouldn't be worth it. On more recent pieces, however, if it's cold painted enamel (i.e. not glass powder fired in a kiln but perhaps something from a bottle you can brush on), it would probably make sense to touch up. You may want to show the ring to a specialist (a jeweler who specializes in antique enamel pieces or maybe a museum curator?) to find out more.

That's kind of what I suspected. Thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate it! -A

Don't bother restoring it as it costs more than the item is worth, all enamel is expensive to get done again as its really hard work and only worthy of doing if you can do it yourself. Anyway that is a lovely ring and the age related condition adds to the item if you ask me, I love my items to show there age.

Oh, thank you so much! I agree, I really appreciate a well-loved look on certain items. All my best, -A

if I was you I would get the enamel cut level evenly on both sides so it matched (just under that first opal) and then you would never be able to tell it had lost any enamel. But that's me and that would be because I would want to sell the ring, it would not cost a lot if you got it done by small jewellery firm.

I adore it just the way it is!!! and would not change anything...........

Thank you, that's how I'm feeling too. I was thinking of selling it, but it's so unique I just might keep it! -A

      Very pretty ring!
The black enamel complement so well the opals, please, don't remove it :-)

A little touch of black permanent marker, then applying clear nail polish droplets WITH A NEEDLE, not the bottle brush, will give back the original effect.
Quite my area of kyratisation ;-))
