c1920 German bird in birdcage key wound gilt music box with turquoise stones inset around the bottom, I believe it was made before 1920. Item is a nice example and you don't see too many with stones inset into them, has a very nice gold gilt band running around the bottom. The bird spins from side to side, raises his tail and this movement makes his beak go up and down. The bird then whistles a song which at the moment I know not, this music box is in good working order and the sound it makes is very good but I will be taking it to a specialist for the once over which will set me back about £50, just so I can say it has been serviced by a pro. This is the 2nd one I have owned the other sold well, I purchased this today with a very nice art nouveau pewter large pin tray which I showed earlier today & Nuevo brass & glass ink well, they did not cost a fortune at £100 for the 3 so a good days work today. I have named him big bird just like the one from Sesame Street due to his yellow colour. I really like these singing birdcages due that I have breed canaries in the past, I still have chickens not laying ones though game birds from all around the world. The music boxes sell for a reasonably high sum and are very collectable, but I will get it serviced and probably keep it for a good while cause it reminds me of when I had singing canaries. All info is always helpful.
