Large Hand-colored Photo of Coastal Rocks in a Pie-crust Frame

I picked up this and another large, hand-colored photo at a junk shop in Berkeley today. I'm pretty sure that it's Point Lobos - by the presense of the Monterey Cypresses in the upper right-hand corner. This has a wonderful old pie-crust frame, but the gesso is very brittle and a little damaged. is there anything i can do to stabilize / repair the gesso? What kind of photo is this?
