I love this old Japanese art pottery! This is a signed Awaji piece with an interesting green underglaze visible on the inside. I got it on ebay and it arrived today.

Lovely! Thanks for the post ho2cultcha! Not only is the vase pretty, but, I learned about Awaji pottery which I knew nothing about. In addition, and more exciting, I think you solved something for me! Several months ago, I went to an estate sale that had dozens of pottery wall pockets - some kitschy, some of the usual Lusterware made in Japan. But there was one that was green, cone-shaped, and with a plant fiber weaving on the outside. I didn't think I liked the weaving, but I saw how pretty the green pottery was underneath. A guy working the sale offered to cut off the weaving and I told him no! because I knew it might hurt the value even though I would prefer to see more of the green. Anyway, I had no idea who could have made this wall pocket until this morning when I saw your post and googled Awaji! I think my green cone-shaped bamboo weave covered pottery wall pocket is Awaji! Thank you!
thank you inky and Poire! Poire - please post a photo of your wall-pocket. it's a good thing you left the weave on your pocket - it could double the value of your piece, possibly.
ho2cultcha I posted it on my CW page! :)
