According to my research on the Star series of insulators They were made by Brookfield, Sterling, Harloe and Novelty. Most likely made by Brookfield and from the early 1900s.
It is about 4" tall and I believe is a common style. CD162 refers to the style and would be made by many companies.
Green is not a standard color for insulators and I always look out for the nonstandard colors. The standard colors are blue/green or turquoise and clear.
It does have a large chip along the base but I got this for less than shipping had I bought it online. Does look nice in my window.
Generally, green is less common. Some insulators, though, are more common in green than not. Sometimes clear is a rare 'colour'. Find a clear star-embossed insulator. I've seen only one.
Nice window piece.
Ah, I used to have a grip of these. There is a website with tons of info on probably every one made and I can't think of it right now. I recently gave my last green one away, it had a few chips on the bottom. When my sometimers comes back around, I'll give you the link to the site I'm talking about...that's if when it does come back to me, I will remember who I said this too! LOL!
Seriously tho, if you purchase the purple ones, be sure it's authentically purple. Many people will put a clear one on the roof of their home and leave it there. The sun will change the color. Usually, it won't get dark enough to be considered "purple" but it will look more like a light colored amethysist. That's a buyer be ware! In fact, the one you have in front does look purple to me from here and that's how dark they should be. Nice.
And just to add a little more for you, sometimes you may find one that does have quite a bit of damage but almost like everything else, the rarity of it matters at that time. You just have to know about it.
Thank you very much brunswick. Yes you have to look out for the unusual colors.
Thank you very much SpiritBear. I'll keep an eye out for the clear Star insulators.
Thank you very much shareurpassion. I'll be sure to be sure about purple ones. I also look for a low price as I am not quite sure which are the really valuable ones.

A well-experienced, very knowledgeable collector typically wants original-condition pieces that have not been altered in any way. Many I know will never buy an irradiated piece. The decorator and new collector, and some experienced collectors, do not care or even prefer them to be irradiated.
I never buy artificially irradiated. It feeds that trade. It's a bad trade as it tricks many people into thinking that they have an original, rare colour.
