The Beechcraft AT-11 Kansan was bomber trainer used in WWII. It was a version of the Beechcraft Model 18 which first appeared in 1937. The photo was taken at an air force base in Victorville, California. I bought tis a few miles down the road from Victorville in an antique mall in Oro Grande along old Route 66. Oro Grande is becoming an antique mecca plus restaurants and interesting sites.
In the photo they are loading the bombs like a WWII German bomber would have been loaded. Bombs were placed in racks in the plane and the bombs dropped manually. Not quite sure if the AT-11 worked like this but if it had bomb bay like the B-25 or other such it would be loaded from underneath and the bombs placed in the racks.
The last photo shows where it is in the military section here.
There is another version of this photo used by Beechcraft for advertising with additional text.
