Universal brand Shear Sharpener. Bought this at a yard sale many years ago for $5.00. Works great for sharpening large scissors/shears. No date found. Pat.pending. Good luck finding one James. Your picture is the only other one I've seen.
This is great. I like seeing things with the instructions.
I just purchased on of these Universal Shear sharpeners in what appears to be near pristine condition without any OEM packaging or instructions. Could anyone tell me what they're worth? I'd like to know before I go making an adapter so I can use it for knife sharpening. Thanks.
I don't think there is much collectable or antique value. May still be able to buy new ones. I value mine for the function. I posted this to solve a "what is it" mystery. Should be easy to make an adapter to go in place of the scissor clamp. Good luck with that and let us know how it works.
Triker, I have one of these in my upholstery shop that I use! I would love to have a copy of the specs and any instructions. Universal doesn't have any information for me. Would you be interested in sharing? Thanks much.
Hi Kim. I would be happy to share what I have. Give me an addy and I'll email them to you. I'll have to find them again so give me a few days.
Thanks so much! But as it turns out, I was on a mission....I contacted one of my upholstery suppliers who used to sell the piece. (They still have parts: Active Foam in Chicago). They found a copy of the operating instructions and faxed it over. Best to you -
Hello again Kim. Glad you were able to find what you needed. You have helped me by finding a supplier for parts. I will look up Active Foam in Chicago and see what they have. I've been worried about what to do if the stones wear out or get broken and one of the stone holders is cracked but still holding.
Cheers.
I just emailed the Universal company and they say the sharpener has been discontinued for a few years...too bad ! I have one in my barbershop.
