I got this oil lamp in the South of France from a dealer who had cleared a house. She had a lot of Persian objects for sale and, since I've never been able to find anything like it in the European oil lamp field, I've assumed it comes from Persia.

It is discus shaped with two round pieces of iron cast and joined together by a folding rim. There is a square cut hole for pouring the oil in which is concealed by a barrel-hinged metal flap. In the centre is a hole for the wick and there is a spout for pouring out the waste oil.

It weighs about 295 gms and is about 12.5cms in diameter and is about 4cms in height.

It's just a beautiful and tactile object with a great patina and even if I never find out anymore about it, I just love it!

I have an oil lamp somewhat similar to the one in this picture. I bought it in the streets of La Paz, Bolivia. I am in the process of trying to figure out more about it. I bought it about 10 years ago (2004).
I can not remember how much I paid for it. And I do not remember that there was a story or any history on it from the person I purchased it from. I don't think so.

That's interesting, different continent but similar item. The style definitely seems somewhat naive and almost tribal in style so I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I'm still researching mine and scratching my head. Good luck!
