    We have no idea what this was used for. First thoughts: fabric or yarn storage? Hardware store merchandise dispenser? Please help! I don't even know what keywords to begin a search!       I'm sure you are on the right track, especially since it is marked in fractions of yards on the side, as is even used today. It could be for a lot of things, rope, cloth, cord etc..
