I got this a few years ago, it was added with another item I bought. It was only recently when moving things around that I took a second look at this.

Pottery is not my area of expertise at all, so when I saw the initials of "C.B" on the bottom when I first got it I gave it no thought at all. But, while I had it out again, I looked a little closer and saw a second signature. It was signed "Carlos Begay".

This is a simple piece of pottery, but I like that. It is only 3 1/2 inches high and 2 1/2 inches in diameter. It has a nice design around the top. It was fired in a pit, you can see one side is darker than the other. And pitch was poured on the inside so it could be used as a vessel to hold liquid.

While I can't be sure that this was done by THE Carlos Begay, it is still a nice piece. Small and simple and nicely made. Enjoy the pics :)

Thank you guys, for the love :) And yes, racer4four, the glaze is great on this little jar. In the light, it looks like copper in places. Really cool :)

And melaniej, thanks for that info. I was able to look up what you meant and saw that this is called a Drum Jar. I put up a pic that shows a part of the "rope" design, and there is that place in the design that is not the same as the rest of the rope as it goes around the neck. I do not know if that small space would be called the Ceremonial Break, I would leave that up to experts that know this. Either way, I still love this simple little jar.

Thank you again for your help, which sent me on my way to knowing what kind of pottery this is :)
