These emerald green satin glass candlesticks were made by the United States Glass Company, later known as Tiffin. They stand approximately 10" tall and the bases are approximately 4" in diameter. They are decorated in a sterling silver overlay in a branch and cherry blossom motif which illustrates the ongoing influence of Japonisme in Western culture.
They were made in Tiffin, Ohio, probably in the first quarter of the 20th century. The company began in the late 19th century. Their furnaces were shut down on May 1, 1980, the date considered by most to be the end of the Tiffin Glass Company. The design and sterling overlay are wonderful, but my favorite aspect of these candlesticks in that they give off an intense green glow when illuminated by ultraviolet light. These are about as nice as Tiffin candlesticks get, and I am proud to have them in my display cases.
Beautiful pair !!!
