Samurai Warrior Doll (?)

Any help identifying the approximate date, purpose, and other info of this samurai (?) warrior would be much appreciated. Please note the holes in the hands and the hole in the chest. Are there items missing from this warrior that used to be present? Also note the spikes on the feet where it appears this warrior used to be mounted on something (?). The warrior is approximately 8" tall. Thanks!
