Vintage Mustang pedal car

I just acquired this vintage Mustang pedal car from the son of the original owner. It is missing a few parts and as you can see it is in need of restoration. I have been doing some research but can't really find much on the original colors on these cars. This one was obviously red but appears to have been a candy color. I say that because there is silver undercoat and the red paint that remains appears to be fairly transparent. Any resources would be appreciated.
