Yet another present from Malva today. I took care of some jewelry issues for her and she thanked me by telling me to pick a piece of glass and take it home. This vase ( is it a vase?) has a good deal of weight.
I know less than nothing about Kamei crystal, so I am hoping Karen can fill me in on this item. I didn't find another in an Image search or any other search.

    Thanks for stopping by.

Style personified.....if that makes any sense!

A new Kamei style to me, but it's somehow very Japanese and quite lovely.
Note the satin finish on it and the perfect balance of height and width.

Kamei as a company started in the early 20th Century as a glass maker of household objects.
They moved more into hand made glass from the 1950s on however still maintained some pressed glass work. Like nearly all Japanese glass it was good quality stuff.
Kamei however were not just glass makers but were big glass wholesalers, and I have seen many Kamei (or Kamay) labelled pieces I know were made by other glass firms (some are even dual labelled). What does that mean?
I can't state for sure Kamei themselves made this, maybe another company did. Having said that, to all extents and purposes, this is Kamei.
The company closed due to bankruptcy in the 1990s after trying to reproduce Satsuma Kiriko, a very labour intensive and expensive product.

Is it a vase? I think so, and would be a great piece for Ikebana!

BTW - I think the shape is based on a bamboo vase or water carrier.

Thanks, karen! Yes, agreed that it would make a lovely display for Ikebana (now that I've looked it up to see what it is, lol).

This is so nice Bonnie! As to Karen's comment, is there any significance to the height of the handle being the same as the height of the base itself?
