I bought this from a thrift store several years ago. I know nothing about its origin but I assume that it is some sort of award given to a program participant. It features a high-relief image of the lander sitting on the lunar surface surrounded by a cartouche studded with 12 tiny pearls. Reverse side is marked 10KT.
The primary mission of NASA is science and space exploration. While we all may have some dread about the (probably inevitable) militarization of outer space, NASA is not really part of the military. I'm thinking there should be a better category for space exploration, especially now that private enterprise is also involved.
Interesting!
What a retro look for a lunar landing jewel !!!!
That's a stunner.
