I bought this pin brooch as Bernard Instone, I don't think it is. Looking at the leaves they don't in my eyes look like his work, I could be wrong. Doing some research I came across John Paul Cooper, the work on this brooch resembles very much his work, with the leaves, berries and the 3D effect. The clasp is a C clasp another reason why I think it is an earlier art and craft brooch.
Bernard Instone after art school worked for a time at the westerham studio of John Paul Cooper, you can see were Bernard got some of his influences from.
I would be interested in what people have to say.
    Many thanks for looking.

Really lovely. I see what look like tiny marks on the back, right in front of the hinge.

Hi Bonnie, thanks for your comment. I've looked all over but no marks, there are a few scratch marks.
    3. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
Hmmm... I see what looks like a "2". I greatly enlarged and enhanced the photo. It's directly behind the hinge. Maybe I need coffee, lol!! :-)))

Hi Bonnie, I can see where your looking and it does look like a 2, I've cleaned around that area and it's tarnish.

I know Bonnie, tell me about it lol. I wish all these art and craft jewellery makers would have marked their pieces, life would be so much easier, but then were would be all the fun.

You always do a great job with your photos too. The green just pops with the green background and always so clear!

      Jean! Another beauty!
Love your pics, and your new profile too :-D
Stone is chrysoprase (the green dyed chalcedony sort), as you said, not Instone... I think Artificers guild, Jewels1900 and Paul will know! :-)

Thank you Judy, your comment is very welcome. I'm also in the same boat, these art and crafts makers would have made life so much easier if they would have marked their pieces. Oh well at least it gives us something to do. I'm also learning all the time, just keep enjoying these timeless pieces.

Thank you shareurpassion, I'm glad you like this brooch, also my photos :-) from kyra comment the stone is dyed chalcedony, it would been very nice if it would have been either jade or Emerald.

Thank you Karen, do you have any other Bernard Instone pieces?
    21. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 8 years ago
Hi kyra, I was also thinking Artificer guild, John Paul Cooper did do work for them. I'm looking forward to Paul and Jewels1900 comments, fingers crossed. Oh, and thanks for your comment :-)

Thank you Judy and kyra for your kind comment of my profile photo. It was taken last weekend in Llandudno, North Wales. :-)))

Hi Jean, I would say Artificers Guild, it has their look, and very well made, agree with Kyra, stone is probably chrysoprase.
    24. Peasejean55 Peasejean55, 8 years ago
Thank you Paul. A friend was looking at this and she thought it was a stock pin, which was worn by horse riders, I have no idea. I'm pleased that you say this was made by Artificers Guild, a great addition to my collection. Yet again Paul, thank you so much for you knowledge.
