I stumbled across this painting by Freserick Church. I believe it is an original painting. The last picture I uploaded is his signature however you can barely see it. I bought it at a thift store for $12 for my cousin's cabin in KY. I thought it would be beautiful in an old looking cabin. But after looking closer and trying to research it on the net I am unable to locate a reprint of this painting "Sunset on the Hudson." It is on a hard cardboard and I read he did paint on mill board. I have not had it verified to be an original but I am loving and enjoying this artwork. I can still see where he painted with light. Even in the condition it is in I absolutely love it.
Ha, I know this painting, and believe it to be the exact same one that hung in my family's living room for years in Ft Mitchell, Ky. As a kid I stared at that painting for hours over the years, looking for what I thought was a "Church" in the trees that would be called the "Hudson F Church." It was like finding Waldo for me. Haha. The frame and the name plate etc look exactly as I remember. When the house was sold through the estate, after my parents died, much was given to St Vincent Depaul, Goodwill, and local thrift shops, etc. The painting is not authentic, per se, as -if it is indeed the same, exact one - it was purchased at Kaye's Furniture, no longer in business, It used to be on Madison Ave, in Covington, a long time ago. Anyway, I liked the picture so much that I googled it, I came across this page, and viola! I believe it to be the same exact one that hung in my parents house. I hope you enjoy the picture as much as I did. And I hope someone finds the Hudson F Church (ha) in the foliage and trees. How ironic to see it again in this way. Take care. Perhaps this solves the mystery if it's the same one.
