16 inches tall. Just interested in finding out the history behind my piece. Older gentleman had it for many many years after his passing at late 80's it was given it to my great uncle. He has had it many years and wanted me to have it. He knows I love researching but I can't pin point anything. Thanks for you help. It is very beautiful with beautiful colors.
I can't be specific but this is an antique Nippon handpainted vase, possibly Morimura. The slightly raised areas of paint are called moriage.
It would probably date from late 18th century to WW1. This style was made specifically for the Western market, but I find the dragon handles an interesting addition.

I suspect it is earthenware. Some webpages advise soaking it in soapy hot water, but when I did this one of my vases, it literally soaked through and stained it. I can still see the stains. That vase has lots of crazing (fine glaze cracks) like yours, so it let through the water. Now I just gently wipe them with a wet cloth. I don't worry about the discolorations, stains - but I don't want more!!!
If it is porcelain, you haven't got problem with soaking it. Just be gentle to the painted decoration :)
Thank you Martika for the information. I'm not sure what it's made of. I'm out of my element with this vase, because I've never owned anything like it before. I think I'm going to try the soapy water only on the bottom to be safe.
