Fabulous find from an old barn in Gardenville, Plumstead Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Current owners who purchased property over 50 yrs ago said it was in the barn when they moved in and they never moved it. Previous owners had a butcher shop at that location, but we don't know their name. Name on trunk looks like Magdaline (can't make out next two words/names). Underneath it says GMS or GM5 31 Aug. - is that a year? and last line says something & then New York. I hope pics are not upside down - they keep showing differently when I open them!

Any info you could tell me about what this is and age would be truly appreciated. Thank you!!

Looks like old German script. Please tell others how you got the pix straight. It is so irritating !

That's beautiful find. If only it could talk.
THANK YOU for taking the time to make sure your photos are correctly positioned! I am way beyond tired of seeing posts with cockeyed, upside down, out of focus photos.

"Magdalene Bäuerle von Ung... " or something. German name is my guess. Looks fancy! Could it be "Ems 31. Aug" No clue...
      Nice trunk anyway!

Could the second word in the first line after 'Magdalene ...... be 'Mandele' or 'Handele' ???
