    (586 items)

These were amongst Dad's stuff when he died.

The first is a Female Relatives' Badge, established by the Commonwealth Government in 1940 for issue to the nearest female member of a serving member of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Military Forces, or Royal Australian Air Force.
It is a silvery metal, although not silver, and inscribed 'TO THE WOMEN OF AUSTRALIA'.
This would have been my grandmother's, Dad's mother. It has one star on the bar, for although Dad's brothers were also in the forces, stars were only issued to represent each child on active service abroad (Dad).
On the back it says: ISSUED BY THE CWEALTH GOVT, has a serial number, and below that Amor Sydney (the badge maker I assume).

The medallion is Dad's from his childhood. It is very thin and light, stamped for sterling silver on the back.
The front is engraved with his initials.
The back is engraved: MNG(?) PCC 3rd prize boys Harry Lang 4-10-34.
This would have been for some competition at a Police Citizens Club I think, possibly Mentone, although I am not sure about any of it really.

      Hi,
      Take a closer look (image 3); ``STG SIL`` is obviously for ``STERLING SILVER``
Most of Commonwealth badges and ``sweetheart brooches`` made during WW II or earlier were not fully marked (lion passant, assay office etc) but either ``sterling`` or abbreviated like this.
      Cheers

Great pieces from your Dad, Karen. Though little and possibly inexpensive, they are so much more meaningful than other more expensive collectibles. [;>)
