This Aynsley sugar bowl was part of a sugar and cream jug set given to me by my grandmother in the 1970s. The back markings suggest that it dates from 1939 and might be a second, due to a small flaw in the rim.

The jug, which is unfortunately detached from its handle after someone managed to drop it, was perfect, and shows the hand painted gold number "D1265", in addition to the 1939 Aynsley back marking.

I can't find any record of this particular pattern anywhere and I wondered if it might be a special edition that has something to do with what appears to be a castle depicted on the china. Can anyone identify the china pattern, or perhaps the building?

Welcome! I found something very similar at replacements.com, a pattern called Wilton, same pattern but this one has a border. There is also one called Garden gate, but not may pieces to view. You can also try the British site called china finders, as they would have more options, I would think! here’s the link for Wilton
