    (1017 items)

This pretty ring was in among a bunch of crap. I got to pick through all of the remaining jewelry, which had not yet been put out, at a really small local thrift shop and this was one of my finds.
My friends have determined the identity of the beautiful stone (see Comments).
The ring looks art deco but the Dutch hallmark dates it from 1953.

    Thanks!!
    ~Bonnie~

No idea, but it's a great colour and style!!!

Striking design, and nice price too ;-))

It could be dyed chalcedony, in a pinkish (I never seen before too!) color.

This is awesome! UGH! That darn sometimers got me again! I promise I have seen this before and I can not recall the name of it. It's got the tone of a ruby. It will bug me all day till I remember! It does carry value tho. Love looking thru the 'junk' areas.

shareurpassion - oh, I'm glad someone has seen this before! I've had 100's of rings pass through my hands over the years, but never one with that kind of stone. Or whatever it is.....I hope you can remember!!
    5. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
@kyra...gee, I was sure you'd recognize it.... :-)))) Maybe davyd will know, if he happens to see it.

@Judy - the kind of stuff that keeps me awake at night, lol!!

Sorry kiddo, I am of no help today! It's all blank!!!
    7. shareurpassion shareurpassion, 8 years ago
I thought kyra would recognize it too for sure...

I don't know much about jewlrey Bonnie, but I know a beautiful piece when I see it, and this is it! I love the asymmetrical design and how that beautiful stone its framed with the nicely designed silver!

Bonnie, have a look at pink spinel.......it is the only pink stone I can think of as a guess!!!
    11. Gillian, 8 years ago
Pink Agate can have that fuschia pink; Rhodonite or Pink Tourmaline?
    12. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
Judy - I know it's not a spinel because the color is too "soft". A pink spinel is like a pink crystal. I think this is a natural stone, but what.....aaaaghhhh! LOL

      So many great suggestions...... :-))))

      I will probably never know............

Very nice ring, Bonnie!!! I think it will be dyed chalcedony, as Kyra said. Agate was mentioned too. Agate is a banded form of chalcedony but the same substance.

So have you ruled out glass, then? But what I'm really curious about is how on earth you got the thrift shop staff let you go through the jewelry before putting it out! Now that's a real mystery:)!
    17. martika martika, 8 years ago
Davyd, it happened me too in one charity shop. The staff member just let me go through a big basket full of mostly costume jewellery, which was hidden behind the till and wasn't even priced. Probably they thought nothing interesting there. I suspect the stuff is checked for valuables before it reaches the thriftshop. Of course something often slips through.

davyd286 - this is a one-room shop run by someone who has not a single clue about jewelry. We were pretty much alone in the shop. so she took down the rest of the jewelry cases and we went through them to match up earrings. As I found things I liked, I just set them aside. This is the same place where I bought that 3 strand gold necklace - 14k and 18k blend - for 1 Euro. She took it out of the box, put it on the table and I saw the 585 stamp and scooped it up. I've bought 18k creole earrings, an 18k gold pendant and numerous other things from that little shop.

      :-))))))

davy - yes, pretty much ruled out glass. The color looks to "soft" to be glass, if you know what I mean.

Whatever the stone is, it's beautiful.
    21. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
fleafinder - yes, I see what you mean! My ring was made here in the Netherlands, but that's not to say the stone couldn't have been imported from somewhere else.
    22. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
I looked at the dyed chalcedony and it seems to be the best bet, so far. Haven't found that particular color, though.
    23. davyd286, 8 years ago
I've been reading up on gemstones, and it's amazing what they can do with synthetics and stone enhancement /treatments! I'm not buying any colored stones anymore unless they are an ultimate bargain as in your case.
    24. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
davyd286 - I only knew that it was silver. The stone looked very different in artificial light. I was surprised to see the color when I held it up to the sun the next day. I was intrigued by the shape/cut of the stone more than anything else

Yet another new word..carmelian. I have not heard of that but I don't see the hallmark? Where is it? I'll try to blink a few more time. It's me..not your pics for sure. :)

      Take a peek here:

      http://kamayojewelry.com/gemstone-colors/red-gemstone-names/#Red_Fluorite

The fluorite is the one I was thinking it was, (I think) and I originally saw it somewhere else. When I saw this one, I'm not so sure. Anyway, this might help a bit, it's good to look thru it anyway!
    27. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
Rick55 - it is rather different! Glad you like it. :-))))

Thank you to everyone who's been offering help/love!
