This 8 inch goblet or vase is in the Loetz Candia Ciselle décor. It is about 4 inches in diameter at the widest and has a polished rim and a polished pontil. second photo that is backlit, you can see that golden yellow droplets are applied to the clear Candia glass. The surface has a metallic gold/silver iridescence with highlights of purple, and can clearly be seen in the first photo. Perhaps a more seasoned Loetz expert could advise if this would be considered Silberiris or Goldiris? The final picture shows the base and the pontil. There is a tiny chip visible near the center of the pontil that I believe was caused when the vase was snapped away from the rod. It was probably just a bit too deep to completely polish out.
This was one of the first Loetz vases that I purchased at a local Hampton Roads, Virginia shop nearly twenty years ago. The elderly lady who kept the shop had been collecting iridescent glass for most of her life. Sadly, time has taken her away from us, but she was my first glass mentor. Thanks Helen!
just love the bronze iridescence beyemvey
Thanks Malkey!
Based on the shape and the photos showing the smaller "spots" on the finish, this piece could be an example of Silberiris II which has a similar appearance to Cisele. Nice example. http://www.loetz.com/decors-a-z/silberiris-ii
Thanks Deb for the correct decor - you know your Loetz!
