I received these from my aunt who was both a collector and jewelry maker. I don't know for certain whether she repurposed this pair into earrings, or if they were originally made for that purpose. So much detail in her face, gown, arms stretched upwards and apparent wings, but I am stuck and need your helpful hints or suggestions on identification. If you know for certain what or who this is- all the better! Thanks
I think your aunt did a great repurposing job. Those pieces likely started as a clasp or a buckle or perhaps, a bag fitting. They are of better quality because they are cast and not stamped. Is their weight sufficient enough for them to be bronze?
Too bad the photo of the back is blurry. The edges on the inside don't look very well finished, so either the back wasn't meant to be seen (as if they fasten to a bag or a piece of stationery or furniture) or it could be a copy made from an older piece. Not sure how I feel about the wear pattern so far, may need to take another look later.
Very nice!
Davyd286 - I will take a better picture of the back ASAP. Thanks.
Hope the HIST channel doesn't see these or they will invent 6 months worth of crap about more proof of ancient aliens etc. !
Davyd286 - I added a pic of back, hope that helps! My son in law says bronze. Thanks.
Blunderbuss- I've heard both creepy and beautiful. I wonder if there is a word for that!
