I mean pictures are deceiving when one buys something online! Although the seller didn't say this was malachite, I thought it was from the photos. The setting was fascinating and confused me as to whether it was Native American or WHAT?

The setting is stunning and after inspecting it upside down and sideways it appears to be handmade. Someone put a lot of time, effort and affection in to it...but I could be way, way wrong. I am still confused as to whether it is Native American as it has many characteristics but is very elegant? Dainty?

As for the stone, I have gone through all my Dad's old geology and rock books and was leaning towards dark green Aventurine. This morning, i showed it this to a retired geo down the street is now leading us to think this may be African Jade. The name is misleading because it is not Jade at all but Quartz and garnet related. It meets all the characteristics with banding, color variations. The big geo/gem show next month will hopefully have a lot of heads to ponder over it.

The pendant measures 2-3/8" long including the bale and 1-1/2" wide.
The bale is marked 925 in a box. It would have been interesting to see its condition prior to the seller cleaning out of curiosity. There is not one pearl missing and tone of them are teeny tiny.

    Unsolved Mystery

This really is pretty - a shame it only has a 925 stamp on it. The design is very similar to what the Dutch call "Zeeuwse Knopjes" or Zeeland Buttons.
Pearls? Where do you see pearls? I see silver balls. Pearls don't reflect like a mirror.

The Navajo's often refer to the round silver beads on jewelry as pearls. Depends I think on whether they are handmade or not...pearls vs. bench beads. I hope the appraiser guy can tell me more.

I have never heard of Zeeland Buttons. I am going to do more research on that as it is another avenue to research!

      Thanks!

It's very attractive, but I'd say it's unlikely that this is Native American, since it's marked 925. Very few Native Americans use that marking, because it's usually associated with Mexican jewelry, and Native American jewelers don't want their work to be mistaken for an import.

Plus, if they did bother to stamp it 925, they would almost certainly add a signature or at least initials, knowing that buyers find signed pieces more desirable and will generally pay more for something with a signature.

Agree with Canyon Road on all points.

Here are examples of Zeeland Buttons/Zeeuwse Knopje jewerly:

CanyonRoad and Efesgirl agreed! Now need to concentrate on another direction besides NA. I did look at the Zeeland Buttons earlier today. What beautiful jewelry! I had never heard of it before. Interestingly enough, in my boredom the other night online I ran across a ring someone had listed under NA when it was DEFINITELY Zeeland Buttons. When I saw it, I thought that is definitely not NA or Mexican. One of the bad things about having MS is my feet and legs kill me at night, which means I spend way to much time looking at stuff I don't need. ????
