    I just picked this up at an estate sale today and I'm wondering exactly what it was used for. It's made of cast iron. I payed $25 did I get a deal. I don't know anything about it please help.

      Are you sure it's cast iron? It looks like wrought sheet iron. Simple home-made hatchets like this are used in Pennsylvania for harvesting tobacco. In our area the entire mature tobacco plant is cut off near the ground and hung in a barn, in groups, on four foot strips of wood called "laths". The leaves are stripped off the stalks after it has partially dried.
