I decided to drop in to the "Restore" which is run by the "Habitat for Humanity" folks. A large thrift/recycle type store. They have a huge selection of items from furniture to home appliances and everything in between. As I was walking around I saw a shopping basket that said "Paintings" on it. I noticed two large framed canvases jammed into the basket with their lights still attached to the frames. The paintings looked old with their coarse aged canvases tacked onto homemade stretchers. Thankfully nothing had punctured or dented the canvas from all the other smaller things crammed into the cart. The first picture I bought was this floral still life. It's signed A. Kirsten. Written on the stretcher is the original owners address along with the date 1940 and Frankfurt Germany and the artist name as well. A small tag at the top says 'Living Room". There's no listing for this artist on any of the data bases so I figure it was an amateur endeavor by a relative or local artist. Still it's a nice large colorful painting and will look great with my other treasures. I'll have to post the other painting separately. It's a bit bigger than this one and is amazingly by the same artist. -Mike-

Interesting the date puts this into wartime Germany.
It is a lovely floral painting.

Thanks Karen....isn't though. I had hopes of it being by a listed artist. The history would be fascinating. :)
