Happy weekend CW. Just getting back from my marathon... sleep fest. :) It was awesome!!
No glass finds but I found these guys at GW. I washed one up a little but you can't tell it.
One of them weighs 2lb. 8 oz. and has a curve to the bottom. The other one weighs 2 lb. 1 oz. and sits flat. They are 4" tall, 4" wide and 2" across the front and back. The lighter one is slightly larger.
I have looked here and other places but am unable to determine the material.
Thanks for looking and any help.:)
IDK on the category.
I'm after a sleep fest Tuesday - work first however!
I guess testing it's hardness will help you determine the stone - I sure can't help lol.
From what I see these look like soapstone. This set is wonderful, possibly made in India, but wow- what a find !
Pretty pair of ephelants! ;-)
Yep, soapstone (easily scratched by a needle).
These are set of elephant bookends. They do look like soapstone to me as well. Very nice!!
Thanks all for the input and loves. How to clean it? Can I put them in tepid soap and water? A little scrubbing? They are some dirty boys. :>(
Yes, you can! Elephants love bathing :-D
Thanks for verifying soapstone all. I gave all my youth trophies with marble bases to GW but these have serious scratches on the bottom and sides. I do not have any soapstone either so I couldn't decipher. Several on e-bay say marble 1 says soapstone. Then I overhead a lady in a thrift say she put some carved pieces in her dishwasher and they were gone when she opened it. LOL I'm going to go with kyra and give a really good bath. :) Then some oil stuff.
Thanks for the comments, info., and loves: Karen, Phil, kyra, Scott and Thomas. :)
Thanks for the loves also: BB2, Bonnie, vetra, Mike, Tassie, aura and Roy. :)
Yes this cleans nicely, wheras alabaster for instance should not be in water.
Thanks for the love iggy.
They got a bit of a damp wipe and boxed. New apt mgmt. are doing renovation.
OOOOMMMMGGGG!!!!!!
I appreciate all the input very much.;)
