Flea market find again, I bought these beads with a bone pendant (apparently remains of a necklace) maybe 10 years ago. An another flea market seller told me that he thinks the beads are ivory, so I would like to hear your opinion on this. The beads are really smooth, and quite heavy. The pendant is from an another material, it is heavy, but porese. I would say it is some kind of bone, but really nicely crafted.
I thought about putting these beads together with round black glass beads into a new necklace, so that I can wear them.
I'm lousy at identifying ivory/ivorine/bone. Kyra is the one who's good at that....and I think it would look very nice together with black glass beads.
Thank you Efesgirl!
Imho this is not ivorine, I have one ivorine necklace and the beads are just different, with different weight as well.
The central piece looks Maori to my eye.
Can you post that necklace? I'd like to see it. Thanks.

This is very interesting!
I agree, even the material used here looks similar to me:

Efesgirl, given my speed it wont be in next days. But I will post it later when finished.
I googled another one pendant and this definitely looks similar - so interesting!

I don't think it's ivory but the quality is better than average. Look into "vegetable ivory", it's a nut that jewelers use in place of ivory, could yours be it, especially since Polynesia was mentioned.
Thank you davyd286! You are great help, as usual!
Pretty beads for a nice project :-)
I can see no evidence of material being bone (no tiny grey/black traces of blood vessels), the porosity feeling of the pendant could be a lack of polishing or age use.
Can't see either evidence of Schregers lines for ivory, examine them attentively one by one!
Tagua nut or vegetable ivory is a possibility too, as Davyd said :-D
Ivory or not - it is gorgeous!!!
Thank you Kyra a lot!
Thank you martika!

Stayed at home today so I started to work on the necklace. Cannot do more now, as I miss components. I tried for the necklace to have a slightly vintage look, hope you like it :)) Not sure if it will be with a lobster clasp, I have a black one so I planned to use it, but I realised now that I can find and use an older one as well. Will see how it looks together.
Nice color combo!
Very good work! It'great with the wire mount and black beads :-D
Thank you guys! Really glad that you like it
The beads are nice and I love the result. Good work.
Thank you Elisabethan!
