This is a rather unusual and very large ring. I believe it was made of natural coral. It is not smooth and polished to a flat surface but rather with little "dimples". One of my daughters called it a "strawberry" ring.

I also think that the ring is not very old. My best guess is that it was made some when in the 1980's.

Why did I buy it? Well, it makes a good conversation piece, it was cheap, and my husband actually didn't dislike it (I was surprised).

    Thanks for looking:)

Yeah - Stingray skin! It's here, too. Where Esefgirl's Druzy quartz ring came from.

OMG! Kyratango and Celiene, thank you so much for your help and for solving the puzzle! I would have never figured this one out on my own! And I probably would not have bought it either because it sounds creepy!

Oooh... Freiheit, not as creepy! This material is used since 17th century, for sword handle and for necessaires cases!

I was taken by the colour. I guess it can be stained in any colour one wants. I should have known better because the inside of the ring looks like it has a piece of leather. I was trying to get it out - but I couldn't! Now I know why!!!

Shargreen was used for many things, from shoes to rings. French Polishers would use it to fine sand furniture.

Thanks for your information, GeodeJem. Once again I realized that there is a lot more out there I need to learn about:) This website really helps! I should rather say that the people help.
