So this necklace has been rattling around in the junk pile as one of those cheap costume faux pearl strung together with colorful bead type of deals -- what I think Bonnie would call "bijoux." I've been trying to get my jewelry hoard under control, pulled this one out to inventory it, and when I was looking at the clasp, noticed there was a teeny tiny stamp just under the opening, I got out the loupe -- 925. A silver clasp made me take a closer look at the faux pearls and noticed they were irregular and very lustrous. Real pearls? I did the pearl teeth test, and they passed. Well whaddaya know? So now I'm curious about the other stones. Possible the big green ones in the middle are jade? After that, the next one is yellow, then next is orange, then next is grey, then brown, then dark orange, then light orange. I'm thinking I may take this to a local place that specializes in natural stones, see if they can tell me what I have. Thanks for looking.

      This is so wearable Katherine!
I wonder if the pearls are freshwater; so mussel not oyster. The size indicates that to me and freshwater pearls do come in round.

You got yourself a winner there! It's beautiful.

Likely that the green stones are agate.

Thanks for the love, racer4four, and Efesgirl. :)

Karen, I don't know one pearl from another, am trying to figure it out by reading online. I gather when the pearls aren't perfectly round, they are called baroque. Beyond that, I'm Sgt. Schultz. :P

Thanks, Bonnie, was very surprised to find it was a real deal instead of costume. Yes, the big middle one could be agate, the ones on the side, I don't know. Thanks for the compliment! :)

I guess my main point about them being freshwater is that this is probably Asian made if they are freshwater. China produces most of the pearls but that doesn't mean the necklace was strung there. It has a Thai or Indonesian feel to me.

Nice find! Sterling, pearls, hardstones... hurrah!
The deep green beads may be nephrite jade, grey chalcedony, purple rhodolite garnets.
      For the others...I don't know...:-)

Thanks for the love, TassieDevil, mikelv85, jscott0363, melaniej, and kyratango. :)

Karen, that's interesting information. Yes, I think Thai or Indonesian, now that you mention it, the rondelles suggest it, as well as the stones. The design of the necklace is so different from what one expects in a pearl necklace. I'd just tossed it into a bag with other bits I was going to schlep off to a swap meet and sell for a dollar or two. The unusual shape of the clasp made me take a second look as I'd read this style of clasp was vintage. Who knew? :)

Thanks, kyratango, it is a surprising find, I'd had the necklace around for a while and never gave it a second thought. Thanks for helping identify some of the stones! Yes, there are so many colors, and I've no clue about gemstones, so will have to have someone take a look. :)

This one is really beautiful! I wish I have found it before you. ;-)
If you sell it, I'll buy it!

Thanks for the love, fleafinder, brunswick, ahanninger, aura, NevadaBlades, and vetraio50. :)

I missed your comment earlier, Judy, thanks for the compliment! :)

ahanninger, thank you, glad you think it's beautiful. I have to figure out what I have in terms of stones and value before I decide what I want to do with it. :)

Hi Katherine! Haven't seen you in a while, hope all is well. I would say jade, and jade does come in many colors. Good idea to take it in. It's so great when sellers think it's junk. Sometimes, they just get tired of stuff and it really is junk to them, right!

Take them to your local bead store, they'll be able to tell you exactly what they are and probably show some matching ones.

Thanks for the love, aura, NevadaBlades, vetraio50, and kivatinitz. :)

Hi Share, I've been so busy lately, only stick my nose in here every blue moon or so, things are as well as can be expected. Hope all is well with you, and all my friends on CW, miss you guys and can't wait to have more time to spend on here. :) As for the necklace being sold as junk, I don't recall buying it as it isn't my style, and as I say, I thought it was a bit of costume junk, I mean, who mixes peals with rondelles and colorful beads like that? I think it either came in a grab bag or my jewelry dealer gave it to me, she often throws in stuff when I buy from her. I chucked it into a bag of stuff I wasn't keen on, lol. Yes, it was a great surprise! :)

Thanks for the advice Davy, that's a good idea! :)
