Rembrant Laguna

Rembrant Laguna (may have been named after a street address rather than a misspelling of the painter's name) is another of the unsolved mysteries of California pottery. Probably one of the earlier operations in what was becoming the Laguna Art Colony, a developing congregation of art and craftsman galleries, it is often associated with Durlin Brayton's work at Brayton Pottery - a connection I doubt was anything more than an acquaintance. A somewhat more compelling case can be made connecting this to Bill Maddux of Maddux Pottery but, as far as I know, no definite connection has yet been established.

From what I've seen, most of the ware is cast in molds and most of the ware is small - the largest piece in the picture is 4 1/2" tall. Larger pieces can be found. They not only produced the sort of art ware pictured but also figural novelty planters and flower arrangers and beautifully glazed figural fish.
