I am trying to date this find. I now know it is probably Victorian. How do I find out more about watch chains and fobs? Is it Gold plated vs, rolled gold vs plated. And is the mesh gold too? I am assuming the Trojan/Roman soldier cameo fob is amber colored glass. This is not my area of expertise. I would love to know more about it, how it was worn etc. it may have been my great Gtandfathers - he was a California judge in the late 1800 he arrived in 1850+/- from Boston. Thank you for helping.
I found jmf& co on the swivel clasp.
Here is a link with some info that might be helpful.....

I found a mark on the swivel J.M C and think it dates to pre 1&88. An advert was referenced in another unsolved mystery states J.M Chandler & company went bankrupt in 1888. The made 18kt plated gold and mesh jewelry. Or is it rolled gold? It may have belonged to one of my great or great- great grandparents, however, relatives that might have known are gone. I would like to determine a value. And also wonder if the Trojan fob might be something called rootbeer glass.if there is such a thing. Could it be pressed glass? Or do you suppose it was carved? I discovered some letters from J m chandler to his mother while he was in hospital during civil war. The hunt for info is fun!
