This was one of those finds on a Sunday afternoon at a local antique mall. It was attributed simply as "Victorian Bowl". It is approximately 9" x 7" x 3", and it is approximately in the shape of a heart. The base layer of cream white glass has been cased with a layer of transparent blue. On top of this is a layer of silver leaf and finally a transparent glass layer. The rim is crimped, ruffled, and flame polished. On the base, the pontil is ground flat. The price was very reasonable, so I'm quite happy!
Mystery solved thanks to some nice folks - older Fenton Jamestown Crest variant.
I do not think Welz. I have seen anything that would link it to their production.
I have a Victorian era thorn handled basket that is similar in technique except for the silver leaf inclusions. I thought perhaps Welz made the thorn handled baskets, and this could be a related thing. What do you think it might be? Bohemian, British, or even American? I will edit the post later. Hopefully somebody may know what this is. Thanks Craig!
I'm thinking this bowl was made by Fenton. The crimped edge is typical of pieces they made. Also, the clear edge looks like what they referred to as "silver crest."
I actually was thinking Fenton too, not that my opinion here with the glass objects matters because it's just a guess. I do know Fenton used this color.
Interesting if it would be Fenton. I thought most of their pieces were molded? Did they include silver leaf?
I'm not sure if they did "silver leaf." I do know they did hand painted glass.
Do an image search for Fenton "silver Jamestown." The color looks just like this bowl.
