Any ideas on this beautiful piece :) I think the frame is worth more than the plate and why would they put a wooden box around it? I enjoy looking at it, I'm pretty sure thats real gold on the frame, don't you? age or maker?

I have a similar frame and have seen other's. They are popular with vienna art plate collector's, to display their advertising plates. But I would guess that the plate you have is a good quality hand painted china plate, possibly R.S . Prussia or something high quality. The only way to tell is to remove the plate and check the back for marks.
