    i found this nice little stone dodecadron today at a junk shop. i love the colors and it's just a nice rock! i can use it as a stand for something too. very 1970s, i think.

      I had a small pyramid from this stone. I don't think it's an agate, would rather say it's a marble, but I might be mistaken. Marble is much easier to scratch, than agate, because it's much softer.
      Carvings from different kind of marble are often sold as agate or onyx, wrongly.

      I'm sure this is some kind of marble. Calling these onyx is so widespread and inaccurate - often these are marketed as onyx, wrongly. The real onyx is a form of microcrystalline quartz , like agate, jasper or any kind of chalcedony. Their hardness on the Mohs scale is around 7. Your stone is much softer ( I can see some obvious scratches) and not glossy compared to chalcedony type rocks when polished.
