i found this very large grain-painted toolbox at a junkshop in berkeley yesterday. there is a pasted sign on top which says 'Immigration Business' and 'Personal Cash Books Etc.' it has square nails and dovetail construction and is a really beautiful box! there is lots of writing all over it, but it's very difficult to decipher - all in a very old script.
i couldn't upload the photos of the entire box. something is wrong w/ the uploader.
That is such an awesome old chest!! Looks to be made of tiger oak. I love how the tag is written with the old ink well pens. Quite a nice piece ho2cultcha!!!
thanks jscotto. it is grain-painted - to look like tiger oak. but it's some other kind of wood i don't recognize - parts of it are mahogany, and other parts looks like some kind of pine i'm not very familiar with.
