It is a Ansonia Shelf Clock. The Ansonia Clock Co. of the 1800's and early 1900's has left us a wealth of lovely upscale shelf clocks. They produced elegant statue clocks in a continental style that appealed to upscale businessmen who owned the large Victorian homes of the time.
Thank you moon hill ! I didn't realize it was this old . It definitely appeals to this 35 year old businessman today . It is truly beautiful , it still works and keeps time .
Hello Neonbrian. Welcome to Collectors Weekly. Your clock is an Ansonia model called the "Hermes" from circa 1904. The finish looks really good on it. I have to wonder if it may have been refinished. If not, it has been extremely well cared for.
Ansonia also offered a similar model they called "Mercury".
Here's another example of a Hermes: http://www.clockprices.com/ansonia-hermes-metal-seated-statue-clock.html
For comparison, here is an example of a Mercury: http://www.clockprices.com/file/2016/02/22/5711562_1_l.jpg
The models are sometimes confused with one another. The statue is the same, but the rest of the clock is notably different.
Your clock also has an open escapement movement which is a very nice feature. The exposed escapement adds a visual to the "tick tock" sound made by the clock and is valued by many antique clock collectors.
Thanks for sharing your Ansonia Hermes with us. I hope that solves your mystery. If so, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your listing. If you have additional questions, please let us know.
Bruce 99 that was more info than I thought I would find . I'm not sure if it has been refinished , It is so beautiful in person . I'm going to try to find out more , however you have shined the light on the path . Now I know where to start , thank you so much !
You're very welcome Neonbrian! Good luck with your research and thanks again for sharing your clock with us. :)
