This sat in the shop for quite awhile. Yesterday, I broke down and bought it. Weighs about a kilo (2.2 lbs). I've been looking at various photos on the web trying to determine how old this urn might be, but haven't had too much luck. I was hoping that the base might offer a clue.
The only damage is two very slight nibbles on the edge which can be sanded out.
Some types of these urns were used as apothecary jars.

    Enjoy!
    Thanks for stopping.

Bonnie, I remember seeing these sort of things on dressing tables.......and they had cotton wool balls in them!!!

Judy - oh yes, I hadn't thought about that! I've seen smaller ones used on dressing tables. This urn measures 12 inches, so seems too high for a dressing table item.

Great! Some were too in old bonbon shops :-)

      This one is more modern:

kyra - Maybe that's where mine was originally - in a shop. I wonder how old mine is - I think it's really pretty.

Thomas - thanks ! I couldn't photograph it inside and waste all that sunlight, lol!

i was thinking along the same lines as tassie too but given the height of what u mentioned it looks like maybe its an urn for cookies!

fleafinder - yes, I imagine just about any sort of treat could go in there. However, I would never allow children to help themselves...I envision dings and chips.....
