    1920's? Stamped made in japan. Paid 15 dollars in 1986 in Asheville NC. Have never really found out anything about it.

      These are mid-century, made for the export market. No other information is available because they have no factory mark.

      This is strange. At first glance with my not so great eyes, I thought it was some kind of bondage display.. I am not anxious to find me a pair now. But to a person with knowledge this is probably a real "find" and valuable!

      It is not bondage or slaves as a lot of statues were. Most of those carvings had chains involved. The pose is pure art deco. Cute !~ They look like a Chinese version of the time of Egyptomania.

      I read that Egyptian citizens did civic work as part of their "taxes" & therefore there were no slaves.
