This looks Austrain-Hungarian (1867-1918) but I´m looking for clues to come to an answers :) I have the feeling this could even be older, before 18th century. Hoping someone will recognize the marks.

When you hold it you know it´s really old. It might have been a button from the beginning, later made into a brooch. It´s small only 2,2 cm (under 1 inch) in diameter. There is some sort of handpainted enamel in white, black and vague touches of blue and red. The turqouises looks "unworked" while the almandines have an old cut. The setting of the stones also tells of age.

I will show the marks and closeups in post nr 2.

    Really really greatful for help!

Looks classic Austro Hungarian to me.

PS, I don't think it's a button because it's domed. I think a button would more likely have a flat back.

Thankyou Jewels and Valentino for you nice coments.

Jewels you might be right mine is not a button but antique buttons can be domed. I have seen examples in the nordic museum in Stockholm. It was "stolpknapp". They were not flat in the back but had a metall piece that was stickning out of the back of the brooch and if that was removed I would imagine it would be easy to make it into a brooch. Here's an example but they don't show the back:

      http://smyckessamlingen.nordiskamuseet.se/S-NM/NM.0053073A-D?owner_filter=S-NM&submitbutton=S%C3%B6k&query=Stolpknapp&count=4&pos=1&search_context=1

The link was just to show a domed button. But I'm not saying my brooch is a button, to me it looks like it could have been but maybe the marks speak against it.

I wish I could find out something about the marks.
