My wife and I like Haitian art very much and have some Haitian wood-carvings in our home. My mother possesses a wooden statue carved out of one piece - trunk? - of hardwood, about 1.8 meters tall and ending with three smiling faces. I have seen these same carvings - likely by the same artist - in an art-shop in Atlanta, Georgia, in the late 1970s. I was told by the shop's owner, that the artist was from Haiti and quite famous. Would you perhaps know his name and history? I would appreciate any information at all on his persona, and thank you.

      Sincerely,

I once, about 27 years, met Maxi Saint Felix, a Haitian sculptor who favored mahogany as a medium. One of his works was the "Boat People". Does any one know of the artist or his work??
