The Pictorial Edition of the Works of Shakspeare
    Edited by Charles Knight
    P. F. Collier, Publisher, New York
    Many Illustrations

    8 - Volumes
    Vol. 1 - Tragedies (vol. I) - 471 pages.
    Vol. 2 - Tragedies & Poems (vol. II) - 516 pages.
    Vol. 3 - Comedies (vol. I) - 557 pages.
Vol. 4 - Comedies (vol. II)- 446 pages.
    Vol. 5 - Histories (vol. I) - 390 pages.
    Vol. 6 - Histories (vol. II) - 485 pages.
    Vol. 7 - A Biography - 553 pages.
    Vol. 8 - Doubtful Plays, etc - 507 pages.

None of the volumes have a publishing date.
In Vol. 7, page 552 titled “Note On The Shakespeare House And New Place”, the last paragraph states, “In September, 1865, Mr. Ramsay visited Stratford, at the request of the writer of this ‘Biography’ and has furnished him with the following memorandum of the condition of New Place :—“
So with this, I know the publication date was post September 1865.
From a quick research on P. F. Collier, it appears he started his own publishing company in the 1870’s.
I have seen sets like this one on line, with blue book covers, but I haven't found any with this brownish cover.

    Thanks for looking,
    Dave

Sorry, but what I want to know is how old is the book holder? Seems like I find them everywhere but have no idea of their age! Thanks

Hi Dave, I have this collection too! I picked it up at a second hand store about 10 years ago. I have been trying to figure out the publication date, I see you figure around 1870?
