This cabinet is the envy of a lot of my friends. I bought it in 2005 in a car boot sale. Can anyone tell me anything about it , is it a genuine antique? I have looked at a lot of websites but have not come across anything similar.
If this isn't done with smoke & mirrors, you have a real winner worthy of 18th cent. Versailles. Would really like to see the drawer joints & construction.
It looks much newer to my eye ... French ormolu and marquetry of that earlier period was perfection.
Agree with vetraio, much newer. The intarsia on the drawers are too identical on each drawer and does look machine-made. The metal ornamentation is not really in line with pre-20th century. Gut feeling, 1920-1940's, just my guess. Need to see more though as BB2 pointed out. But I agree, it's a really nice looking cabinet nevertheless!
Totally agree with Vetraio and Olof, in French these 7 drawers dressers/chests are called "semainier" because of the 7 days of week :-)
Thank you so much for your comments. I finally have a name for it " semainier ". The cabinet and drawers have no nails or screws , so looks like joined together with glue and joints.Apart from the metal ornaments it is completely made of wood.
