Very old chair mystery

The chair is the size of an average dining room/kitchen chair. I purchased them as they were just being dropped off at the consignment store. They appear very old (there were 2, i bought both). The seats come out ....looks like they were homemade a long time ago because the wood used looked as old as the chairs do. They were originally caned. I say this because of what they look like when you take the seats out. Thank you in advance for any hints!! Most Sincerely, Sandy
