MALKEY
(429 items)
hi this a bulb neck codd 6/ounce with a cobalt blue lip
J & M stephenson Morpeth only 2 examples known
on reverse of bottle Rylands bulb makers Dan Rylands Barnsley
the idea of coloured lip to identify the company to avoid theft by other mineral water manufactures
piccy taken in the river Wansbeck Morpeth a town in Northumberland North East British Isles
date of bottle 1880s
the marble in chamber when being filled with aerated mineral waters
is forced up neck to rubber ring in lip making an air tight seal
the marble was pushed down to release into chamber below & the fizzy drink could then drank poured out
The coloured tops always intrigued me. I don't think any of the American Codds had them.
