This is very crisply moulded, making me suspect a metal mould, for those who are interested in this method of production.
It has a double chamfered rim and "honest wear".
It is 10cm high by 13cm in diameter.
I think most moulds were metal. Woods burns away too quickly and you cannot get detail but even metal moulds deteriorate with time for less crisp moulding. The quality of the moulding on the glass depends on the quality of the mould of course too
I can't say. There is a lot of variation in definition in my martelé and in my honeycomb panel vases. So much so that definition can be almost entirely lost. So I would assume many of those moulds to have been wooden.
For the sharper shapes in Art Deco, metal moulds may have been preferable. I haven't done the analysis, but Jericho has looked at a few examples which he feels are certainly from metal moulds. I seem to remember most were Deco..
What a very special piece, I've never seen anything like it- do you guys think it could have been a metal perforated or even cage type mold? Does the protruding glass feel the same as the glass in the creases? I have seen two pieces where the same piece exists with a cage and without the cage. Also I'm compiling metal mold pieces there seems to be many that copied Loetz but there are even more that are unique. Great piece here
Thanks, I don't think this one has ever been caged as such as I would have expected that would be difficult if not impossible to remove, but it might lend itself to that. There are no traces left. I don't know if you have seen a similar shape caged?
Are we thinking Kralik or Welz on this? I think the former, although we could say that also many unidentified producers could be in the frame???
I do think the piece was blown into a cage form. If you Email me Ill show you a kralik piece blown in this way. I think it was intended to be as seen and that no cage was removed

Will do. Thanks for the comments.
