This lamp looks like a French lampe berger, but the wick is different. It is porcelain, with hand painted strawberries and leaves outlined in gold. The base may be brass as is the top. The whick is held in place by a glass tube that flairs at the top to hold the whick in place. I wonder if there is a cap missing. Can't find anything like this in spite of extensive searches. It looks like it is signed by J Stewart and it seems odd that someone who created such an elaborate piece does not show up on searches with addition works. Anybody have ideas?

looks like a porcelain ornament converted to an oil candle with a glass wick holder insert.

I agree with TC. Likely made at the kitchen table in the home of J. Stewart.

      :-)))

I had entertained that idea but I don't know where he would have found the thin inch long glass piece that fits exactly into the brass top and forming a collar around top

You two are right. I looked on line and found glass liners like that easily. Had no idea such an item existed.

only noticed one other porcelain ornament noted as artist J Stewart but it didn't show signature:

Found the stand. It is a gold plated egg or crystal ball stand. Maybe it is a project someone found on Pinterest which I don't belong to. Maybe I'll use it as an ornament again. The painting is very pretty, and surprised J. Stewart doesn't show up more. Thank you all.

Posted a picture of a REAL oil lamp that I have under that subject-milk glass
